Restoring Strength and Mobility After Polio: A Healing Journey with the Spinal Flow Technique

In this powerful healing journey, a 49-year-old woman, burdened by the aftereffects of polio, limited mobility, and enduring pain, found hope and transformation through the Spinal Flow Technique. After years of ineffective treatments, including two years of physical therapy with no improvements, her life changed when she began her sessions with Waiora Spinal Flow, founded by certified practitioners Chrissie Zurcher and Frank Pene.

From Limited Mobility to Walking Freely

Her challenges began early in life, battling polio that affected her right leg, which led to a fused ankle and constant muscle atrophy. Her leg was visibly thinner than the left, and she experienced chronic headaches, muscle fatigue, and a sense of coldness in her leg that physiotherapy could not resolve. As Chrissie Zurcher recounts, “Since she’s been coming to us, she no longer uses crutches. Her headaches have gone. She told us, ‘I spent two years going to physio—nothing changed. Since I’ve been coming to you guys, my life has changed.’”

The transformation was profound. Not only did she regain strength, but her muscles in the right leg began to rebuild, showing new resilience and temperature balance with her left leg. “Now, it’s the same temperature as the other leg, and the muscle is being built,” Chrissie shared, marvelling at the improvements. According to Frank, “The leg itself, now twice the size it was, is gaining condition, and she’s walking around without crutches.”

Restoring Balance and Energy with Spinal Flow

In addition to her mobility, her spine, affected by scoliosis and the resulting uneven hip alignment, began to realign. While her hips were not entirely square, her upper spine was straightening as the body reconnected through the Spinal Flow Technique. This gradual yet steady realignment brought her body closer to balance, alleviating pain and promoting freedom of movement.

Dr Carli Axford, founder of the Spinal Flow Technique, emphasises how connection and alignment are at the core of this transformation. “Healing comes from within, but sometimes parts of us feel separate, almost unreachable,” she says. “With Spinal Flow, energy and warmth start to reach those disconnected areas, bringing them back into alignment with the body. This client’s leg, which once felt disconnected, started to ‘wake up’ through the practice.”

Connection Beyond Mobility: Healing at Heart and Mind

Beyond physical changes, Spinal Flow emphasizes reconnection to heart and mind. As Frank notes, “Once they start feeling the heart, things change rapidly. It’s not just about focusing on one limb, it’s returning to the heart, where everything begins to transform.”

Dr Carli Axford adds, “Every cell, muscle, and organ in our body is interconnected. When we bring these separate parts back to harmony, that innate wisdom within begins to heal. The body knows what to do, and Spinal Flow simply helps bring people back to who they are.”
