Breaking Through Autism Challenges with the Spinal Flow Technique
Here is a story of transformation from Karon Tuhaka, one of our Spinal Flow Technique Certified Practitioners from Saltwater Spinal Flow, which involves a three-year-old girl on the autism spectrum. Her journey with the Spinal Flow Technique showcases the profound healing potential of this modality.
A Challenging Start
This little girl began her sessions in September last year, alternating weekly with her mother. She had a quick water birth, leading to some birth trauma, and she struggled with various challenges associated with autism. She was socially anxious, constantly stressed, and had significant digestive issues, being constipated all the time. Emotionally, she was often dysregulated, took a long time to calm down, and had numerous food aversions and sensitivities. She was disengaged, avoided eye contact, and showed little interest in activities or people.
The Journey to Transformation
Since starting her Spinal Flow sessions, the changes have been remarkable. Her kindergarten teacher noticed significant improvements, commenting on her newfound confidence and social engagement. “She’s more socially interactive now, instead of avoiding other kids, she wants to connect,” her teacher observed. She even began pushing other children on the swing, a stark contrast to her previous behaviour.
Her physical health also improved. Her bowel movements became regular, and she hasn’t been constipated since before Christmas. She now lies still on the treatment table for 15-20 minutes, a significant shift from initially kicking and resisting during sessions. “It’s amazing to see these changes. She enjoys the sessions now.
Emotional and Sensory Improvements
Emotionally, she has made huge strides. She can now regulate her emotions more effectively and recovers quickly from distress. She is open to trying new foods, showing less tactile defensiveness and greater willingness to engage with different textures. “The changes are just amazing,” her mother shared.
Dr Carli, the founder of the Spinal Flow Technique modality shares that in her previous practice in Melbourne, she saw many children on the autism spectrum. Families would come to her seeking help, and she would often find blockages at the top of the spine, specifically at C1, the pause gateway. When these blockages were cleared, it allowed the brain’s messages to flow more freely through the body, leading to significant improvements in symptoms like constipation, sleep difficulties, and social engagement.
Parents and teachers frequently reported these changes. “Teachers would say, ‘I don’t know what’s happened, but they’re focusing more, writing better, and participating more.’ These changes are life-altering for the children and their families.”
The Joy of Connection
This little girl’s journey is a testament to the power of the Spinal Flow Technique. From being nonverbal, she now greets Karon with “Hi freckles” and high fives when she comes in for sessions. Seeing her engage more with the world around her is incredibly rewarding. “She looks at me when she says hi, freckles, it’s so cute.”
Her mother is equally grateful, seeing the positive changes in her daughter and experiencing benefits herself from alternating weekly sessions. “Thank you. It’s amazing,” she expressed.
